|Happy Pet Care Dog Walking & Pet Sitting Service||
Hi, I’m Mandy and I’m a registered veterinary nurse, with many years experience of domestic pets.
I have been around animals all my life and as a child spent all of my school holidays on my Uncle’s farm, at the top of Hardcastle Crags. I have many happy memories of there, such as: haymaking, milking and of course ‘Mucking Out’! As a teenager I spent a whole summer with my cousin, drystone walling, our payment.......tickets to see Showaddywaddy at the Victoria Theatre! My first concert!
My passion for animals led me to my first part time job, as the Saturday girl at the ‘Menagerie’ pet shop in Hebden Bridge. Then on leaving school I started a full time live in post as a trainee veterinary nurse at a vets in Shipley.
After getting married I gave up nursing for a while, so I could be at home with our children. I have an incredibly supportive husband and we have two wonderful children, of whom we’re immensely proud! Our son and his wife have settled in Scotland, where he works at Edinburgh Zoo and has just qualified as a keeper. Our daughter currently works at the hospital as an occupational therapy assistant but in August will be moving to London to complete a masters degree in psychotherapy and clinical counselling.
They have grown up around many different pets, mostly waifs and strays from work, helping with hand rearing some of the young orphaned wildlife. Our pets at the moment are: Dougie our young ‘Double Doodle’! Our four cats Guinness, Cookie, Misty and Pumpkin, ranging from 2-16 years of age, and of course not forgetting the goldfish in the pond (and yes, they also have names!)
In April 1997 I joined West Mount Vets, initially part time at the old Halifax surgery and then full time at the Paddock surgery. I have always loved my job as a veterinary nurse, and the team I’ve worked with. It’s a fulfilling career, and every day is different! Over the many years I’ve worked there, I have had the privilege of becoming friends with many clients and their pets and being able to share a part of their lives. From the fun of a tiny kitten, or a puppy party, through to their twilight years, and then, sadly, a tearful farewell, as they journey towards Rainbow Bridge. Some days can be very tough to get through.
In 2017 I was offered the opportunity to start my new venture, running Happy Pet Care, and felt the time was right for a change in my career. An exciting new challenge! My years of experience dealing with both, the pets and their owners, enables me to bring empathy to this trusted role, and the assurance that your pets are in competent hands and will be looked after with the greatest of love and care.
I am a hardworking, honest and trustworthy person. As a Scout Leader, I have previously been fully DBS checked and this has recently been updated. I also have character references, available for viewing, from both friends and colleagues, whom I have known for many years.
I am looking forward to making many new furry friends!
Most recently I have become a member of the National Association of Registered Pet Sitters (NARPS) and have completed the relevant courses.
As a registered nurse I have initially completed three years of training and then had to continue learning and keeping up to date with new technology.
I have attended several BSAVA (British Small Animal Veterinary Association) congresses, both in Birmingham and Edinburgh, each one involved three full days of lectures!
I have also completed many other courses, such as:
Human First Aid
I have also received training as a Fire Warden and Health & Safety Officer.
