My other 'arf leading the way over a drift, (he didn't want me go on own, bless him) - This is the actual ROAD!!
We had to climb over into the field as a digger was trying to clear the road. This was Sunday, they still haven't managed to clear it. I think it will be a while before this road is clear
Well it's been a busy week so far...
What should've been a straight forward farm sitting job has turned out to be somewhat of a challenge!!
Twice a day visits to a farm up in "them-thar-hills". Forget the car in this snow as this road, (shown in the photo's) leading up to the farm is totally blocked with 6 - 8 foot snow drifts, so I have donned the thermals, snowboarding pants & my very fetching pink wooly hat to walk up, (mountaineer) over the snow drifts to get to the farm.
Worth every step when I get there and see the animals I'm caring for tucking into their breakfast or tea, getting fresh hay and a few cuddles.
You know what? Even in this weather, with the challenges it brings, I'm loving my job :-)
Yeah this is gross but true, some dogs do eat poop. Some of you dog owners have probably come across this and I have had a dog in the past who has. So what is it and why do they do this? I thought I'd do a little research as I am interested in animal behaviour and am wanting to find out why animals do what they do...
Well it could be a health problem, so I would urge you to get your dog checked out by a Vet. Eating Poop, otherwise known as Coprophagia, can be caused by intestinal parasites, pancreatitis or because the dog isn’t absorbing the nutrients needed in their diets. The Vets could also tell you that they do not have this health problem, so what other reasons could make a dog eat poop?
It could be copied behaviour...Mothers certainly clean up after their puppies and so puppies could learn from then on, or dogs could also be copying other dogs doing this or even you :-), Well I'm sure you don't eat poop, but they may have seen you cleaning it up from the garden etc and so they could be copying you by doing the same. Dogs do learn by watching others.
A Puppy may have been disciplined by pooping in the house and so may try to hide it if he does it again. Or they may enjoy having the attention even though it would be negative attention as Dogs do crave attention.
I'm sure you'll all agree that dogs eating poop is not good, Yuk! But it is better to try to determine why they are doing this so as to find a way to deter this behaviour.
